I finished it today!! Wow- could NOT put it down! And I absolutely LOVED Father Derrick. I was holding my breath... Oh this book would make a great movie. Yeah- hurry up with that sequel, would ya? I'm ready to read part two.

I have to admit I was a little skeptical about Ashmadai as it’s not really my usual literary fare. But I’m always happy to support new authors and was able to beg an Advanced Reader’s Copy from Nicki Fellenzer who, on top of being co-author of the book, is also author of The Liberty Zone.

A brief bit on what I require in books, if you don’t mind, before I go further. I’m not one to go on about the “hidden meanings” of a book. There’s two basic criteria for books with me. One of those is essential and the other is highly preferred. The essential is that it gets me interested and keeps me interested. Don’t want it to take three humongous chapters to get me hooked. The preferred is that I see what’s happening on the pages as opposed to “reading words”. Hard to describe it better than that so I hope you catch my drift. I’ve made it through more than a few books that didn’t meet the latter but very few that didn’t meet the former. Books that meet both criteria are those I read multiple times.

Ashmadai is a book I will happily read multiple times. I received the ARC [Advanced Reader's Copy] last Saturday and was finished less than 24 hrs later. Not only did it keep me very interested but the authors were more than capable in weaving scenes and action that I could “see”. I am suspicious about religion (thus the skepticism mentioned above) but as Mr. Staggs mentions, this is not a “religious book”. It is the tale of a battle between an ancient evil that escapes to a fertile environment and those who would keep that weed from taking over. YMMV but I recommend Ashmadai if you’re looking for a good book to curl up with.

(I don’t receive payment for that link nor would I accept if it was offered. When I started the OP I told myself I wouldn’t advertise in return for money. I did receive an Advanced Reader’s Copy, but had pre-ordered a copy beforehand.)
